about

This was a song I started writing in 2011 but didn't have a chorus until a couple years ago. I'm still not sure what it's about. I take different meanings from it each time play or listen to it. Ultimately I think it's about how small and insignificant we are in the greater world and how crushing and insurmountable life can be. Despite this, we all feel a need to absorb, experience and leave a lasting mark on the world before we die.

lyrics

And they crushed me
they crushed me down to clay
knowing where I've been before
but not knowing where I am going

A poor man who is on the rise is happier
then a wealthy man who's falling in decline
it's not where you are, it's where you're going
maybe all these fears are in my mind

I need to take some time
to absorb what others have to say
before I'm ready to speak my mind

Have you seen the mountains rise before you
have you seen them rise up to the sky
Oh I've seen them, I've seen them rise
Glad to see them before I day

Enough of the distractions, I need to do it now
before it's too late to speak my mind

Have you heard the oceans roar before you
have you felt the flow as you swim by
oh I've heard it, I've heard it roar
glad to feel the flow before I die

I need to take some time to absorb what others have to say
before I'm ready to speak my mind
Enough of the distractions, I need to do it now
before it's too late to speak my mind

And they crushed me
they crushed me down to clay
knowing where I've been before
but not knowing where I am going
