about

I wrote this back in 2009 when I was feeling quite depressed. Been meaning to polish this one up for a long time. I've been putting it off because it brings back a lot of those feelings I had back then, but my band-mate, Mike Watson, encouraged me to continue working on this. I think it's a great song, personally. This is a stripped down demo, just a single 12 string guitar and vocal track. The final version will probably have more instrumentation, but I kind of like this simple version.

lyrics

you start out filled with hope
at least you try to pretend
but every path you go down
seems to be a dead end

and i lay me down

there's too many distractions
you cannot catch you breath
there's too much entertainment
amusing you to death

and i lay me down

you're old before you know it
you wasted to much time
too arrogant to settle for less than best
and you couldn't make up your mind

and i lay me down

The truth is your not that brilliant
Even though they told you so
They propped you up and you fell back down
And now you cry as you crawl on the ground

and i lie me down

You're right where you belong now
Too weak to lift yourself up off the ground
You always gave up when it got too hard
So you might as well lie back down

and i lay me down

Lying down to rest you fall asleep
Finding happiness at the cost of memorable dreams
A life that's simple creates simple joys
As friends and family sew your seams

and i lay me down
